[DMANET] Ten Ph.D. positions in Helsinki

Helsinki Doctoral Programme in Computer Science - Advanced Computing
and Intelligent Systems (Hecse)

CALL FOR PRE-APPLICATIONS

In the call of 2011, Helsinki Doctoral Programme in Computer Science -
Advanced Computing and Intelligent Systems (Hecse) is offering both
funded and non-funded four-year positions for PhD students starting
from 1 January 2012.

The call consists of two phases

1. A pre-application call for students who would like to join
Hecse, but do not yet have a supervisor within the doctoral
programme.

2. A full application call for students who have found a
supervisor within the doctoral programme who is committed to
supervise the student.


Eligibility

The applicant is expected to have a Master degree, as well as an
interest in scientific research and the work of a researcher. The
applicants, if accepted, are expected to engage themselves in full-time
research and study for a maximum of four years. They are also expected
to participate in the events organized by the doctoral programme. The
progress of the research has to be reported periodically to the school.


Important dates

Pre-applications
* 16 May - 10 June 2011: Pre-application call is open
* 10 June 2011: Deadline for pre-applications
* 10 June - 14 August 2011: Pre-application evaluation and
mutual negotiations with some applicants and possible
supervisors in order to prepare full applications

Full applications
* 15 August - 15 September 2011: Full application call is open
* 15 September 2011: Deadline for full applications
* 1 November 2011: Notification of accepted applications


Applications

All pre-applications and relevant recommendations are submitted
through web forms. A pre-application includes a filled-in
application form, where the applicant specifies research
interests and preferred supervisor within the doctoral programme.
The pre-application also includes a PhD studies portfolio with
a letter of introduction and relevant information about studies
and research so far.
