[DMANET] special issue on City Logistics of the EURO J. on Transportation and Logistics

[very sorry for multiple cross-posting ]

===========================================================
EURO Journal on Transportation and Logistics
Special issue: City Logistics
Guest editors: Teodor Gabriel Crainic and Dominique Feillet

Deadline to submit manuscripts: July 15, 2013
Publication date: September 01, 2014
===========================================================

Urban distribution has emerged in the last two decades as an important
concern for many cities, freight carriers, logistics service providers,
retailers, and citizens. Many new forms of distribution and freight
transportation organization and management have been proposed and
sometimes experimented to adapt to new expectations of citizens and new
collective goals of urban sustainable development. Compared to
traditional schemes, many new challenges appear for the Operational
Research community, including, but not limited to

- the numerous new forms of urban freight transportation that
should be explored and evaluated,
- the development of appropriate planning models and methods for
City Logistics systems,
- the integration of City Logistics into the planning of urban
transportation networks,
- the major opportunities offered by telematics (Intelligent
Transportation Systems) to better organize and manage the traffic and
transportation systems in general,
- the way sustainability can be better integrated into decisions.

The aim of this special issue is to report on new models and insights on
the application of OR to City Logistics. Papers that take special care
of practical considerations (e.g., availability of data, stakeholder
objectives, new rules in cities..) and that tend to provide a generic
understanding of the challenges raised by City Logistics will be
particularly appreciated.

[DMANET] Submission deadline extension: Machines, Computations and Universality 2013

The deadline for submissions has been extended to April 14.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Machines, Computations and Universality (MCU) 2013, the 6th conference
in the MCU series, will be hosted at the University of Zurich on
September 9-12, 2013.

http://mcu2013.ini.uzh.ch/

SCOPE

MCU explores computation in the setting of various discrete models
(Turing machines, register machines, cellular automata, tile assembly
systems, rewriting systems, neural models etc.) and analog and hybrid
models (BSS machines, infinite time cellular automata, real machines,
quantum computing etc.). There is particular (but not exclusive)
emphasis given towards the following:

1. the search for frontiers between decidability and undecidability in
the various models. (For example, what is the smallest number of pairs
of words for which the Post correspondence problem is undecidable, or
what is the largest state-symbol product for which the halting problem
is decidable for Turing machines?)

2. the search for the simplest universal models (such as small universal
Turing machines, universal rewriting systems with few rules, universal
cellular automata with small neighborhoods and a small number of states,
etc.)

3. the computational complexity of predicting the evolution of
computations in the various models. (For example, is it possible to
predict an arbitrary number of time steps for a model more efficiently
than explicit step by step simulation of the model?)

4. universality and undecidability in continuous models of computation.

SCOPE AND OVERVIEW
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, energy efficiency is widely regarded as one of the biggest technological and societal challenges for developing a more sustainable world. The Internet - and more generally information and communication technologies (ICT) - can play an essential role to achieve a more sustainable energy use and to reduce our carbon footprint. On the one hand, Internet is a significant energy consumer, and it is necessary to redesign current Internet technologies, as well as network architectures, devices and components, services and protocols to improve energy efficiency. On the other hand, ICT is a key enabling technology to foster a more intelligent use of energy in areas such as buildings, transport and electric grids.

Both aspects of the problem raise interesting scientific challenges, and require a comprehensive effort and inter-disciplinary research at all levels of abstraction. The goal of this conference is to bring together people from different research areas, and provide a forum to exchange ideas, discuss solutions, and share experiences among researchers, professionals, and application developers both from industry and academia.

Original papers addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of energy-awareness for Internet-based systems, and the design of ICT solutions for eco-sustainability are solicited.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

- Green Internet
- Power-aware Internet applications
- Energy-efficient network architecture and protocols
- Green wireless networking
- Energy-efficient network technologies
- Cross-layer optimization for green networking
- Standards and metrics for green communications
- Energy-efficient management of network resources
- Energy efficiency in data centres
- Energy efficiency, Quality of Service, and reliability
- Algorithms for reduced power, energy and heat
- Data processing in smart energy systems
- ICT for energy efficiency in smart homes and buildings
- ICT for sustainable smart cities
- ICT for sustainable transports and logistics
- ICT for green mobility
- ICT for energy efficiency in industrial environments
- ICT for smart grids
- Security and privacy in ICT for energy systems
- Sustainability achievements due to ICT-based optimization
- Energy consumption measurements, models, and monitoring tools
- Measurement and evaluation of the Internet sustainability
- Test-bed and prototype implementations

[Mycolleagues] PhD Forum at MobiSys 2013 (June 25th, 2013)

The Eleventh International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications
and Services (MobiSys 2013)

Taipei, Taiwan, June 25th - 28th 2013

http://www.sigmobile.org/mobisys/2013/index.php

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Call for Submissions

- Overview
The PhD Forum provides a friendly and supportive environment for
doctoral students to present and discuss their dissertation research
both with their peers and with a panel of experienced researchers from
academia and industry. In addition to providing feedback and advice,
this forum will provide an excellent opportunity for students to
network as well as to practice presenting their research clearly and
concisely.

This meeting is best suited to students who are far enough into their
PhD to have a concrete dissertation proposal outlining the key
challenges they plan to solve as well as the strategies and
methodologies that are applicable. Furthermore, participants should
not plan to finish their dissertation within 6 months of the forum, as
that would leave little time to include advice and suggestions into
their work.

- Awards
$1000 will be awarded for the best presentation at the forum.

- Format
The forum will be a one-day event consisting of short student
presentations, discussion, and a roundtable discussion. Each
participant will have time allotted for a short presentation as well
as an in-depth and constructive discussion led by the panel. In order
to allow adequate time for each presentation, we will limit the number
of participants to 10 presenters.

The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion, in which
panelists will have another opportunity to provide general suggestions
and advice to the entire group.

Submission
Submissions should consist of the following:

•An extended abstract of the student's dissertation research (up to 2
pages) including a brief discussion of motivation, challenges, related
work, and initial results. Applicants should clearly identify their
contributions to the field of mobile systems. Also, it is recommended
to clearly delineate the student's prior work and cite them; this will
help the reviewers and the panel to make better judgment of technical
contributions and provide more useful suggestions.
•A short biographical sketch (1 page max) describing the applicants
affiliations and research activities. This should include the date
that the student expects to complete his/her dissertation.

Please register and submit your paper using the submission system.
Submission site:
https://www.easychair.org/account/signin.cgi?conf=mobisysphdforum2013

If accepted, a student may be asked to provide explanations or
clarification by the camera-ready deadline.

- Important Dates
Submission deadline: March 28, 2013
Notification deadline: April 1, 2013
Camera-ready deadline: May 7, 2013
Forum Date: June 25, 2013

5th International Conference on Algebra and Coalgebra in Computer Science,
Tools Workshop

September 3 - 6, 2013

Warsaw, Poland

http://coalg.org/calco13/workshops.html#tools

=========================================================================

Paper submission: April 8, 2013
Author notification: May 6, 2013
Final version due: June 3, 2013

=========================================================================

-- SCOPE --

CALCO aims to bring together researchers and practitioners with
interests in foundational aspects, and both traditional and emerging
uses of algebra and coalgebra in computer science. It is a high-level,
bi-annual conference formed by joining the forces and reputations of
CMCS (the International Workshop on Coalgebraic Methods in Computer
Science), and WADT (the Workshop on Algebraic Development
Techniques). Previous CALCO editions took place in Swansea (Wales,
2005), Bergen (Norway, 2007), Udine (Italy, 2009) and Winchester (UK,
2011). The fifth edition will be held in Warsaw, the capital of
Poland.

As part of CALCO, a workshop dedicated to tools based on algebraic
and/or coalgebraic principles, CALCO Tools, will be held alongside the
main conference. Papers of this workshop will be
included in the CALCO proceedings.

CALCO-Tools will take place on the same dates as the main CALCO
conference, with no overlap between the technical programmes of the
two events. Topics of interest include systems, prototypes, and tools
developed specifically for the design, checking, execution, and
verification of (co)algebraic specifications, but also tools targeting
different application domains while making core or interesting use of
(co)algebraic techniques.

Tool submissions should not exceed 5 pages in LNCS format. The
accepted tool papers will be included in the final proceedings of the
conference. The tools should be made available on the web at the time
of submission. Each submission will be evaluated by at least three
reviewers; one or more of the reviewers will be asked to download and
use the tool. At least one of the authors of each tool paper must
attend the conference to demo the tool. To submit a paper please visit
our easychair submission site at

https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=calcotools2013
