=========================================================================================
Why to Participate?
=========================================================================================
The MindTrek Association hosts MindTrek as a yearly conference, where the Academic MindTrek
conference has been a part of this unique set of events comprising competitions, world
famous keynote speakers, plenary sessions, media festivals, and workshops since 1997. It
is a meeting place where researchers, experts and thinkers present results from their latest
work regarding the development of Internet, interactive media, and the information society:
* Real chance for media enthusiasts to think outside the box
* Brings together researchers and practitioners from diverse disciplines that are involved
in the development of media in various fields, ranging from sociology and the economy to
technology
* The highest ranked papers will be published in academic journals (e.g. in 2012 we published
a selected set of articles in ACM Computers in Entertainment, Electronic Markets ? The
International Journal on Networked Business, and the International Journal of Ambient
Computing and Intelligence.
* Provides a chance to learn from the vast media genre at large
* Allows participants to exchange views with cross-disciplinary experts
* Aims to provide insights about the convergence of the various media and the future of media
* High-level keynote speakers. A few examples from previous years: Keith Partridge, Tomi T. Ahonen
(Consultant), Latif Ladid (IPV6 Forum), Beat Schwegler (Microsoft), Cinzia dal Zotto (Univ. of
Neuchatel), Ari Ojansivu (Google), Ramine Darabiha (Rovio), Molly R?nge (Crowdculture), Slava
Kozlov (Philips Design), Dave Nielsen (CloudCamp), Janne J?rvinen (F-Secure), Olavi Toivainen
(Nokia), Herbert Snorrason (OpenLeaks), Tuija Aalto (YLE), Juha Kaario (Varaani), among many
others. Also this year we are preparing a wide set of invited speakers & keynotes.

Social Media
=========================================================================================
?Get social!? Social media and Web 2.0 technologies are applied in ever diverse practices both
in private and public communities. Totally new business models are emerging, traditional
communication and expression modalities are challenged, and new practices are constructed
in the collaborative, interactive media space.

Ambient and Ubiquitous Media
=========================================================================================
?The medium is the message!? ? This conference track focuses on the definition of ambient and
ubiquitous media with a cross-disciplinary viewpoint: ambient media between technology,
art, and content. The focus of this track is on applications, location based services,
ubiquitous computation, augmented reality, theory, art-works, mixed reality concepts,
the Web 3.0, and user experiences that make ubiquitous and ambient media tick.

Media Business, Media Production and Media Management
=========================================================================================
Media business and media management face the challenges of the emergence of new forms of
digital media and focuses on leadership practices, business models and value chains.
It discusses competition, patterns of media usage, advertising models, and how traditional
media can cope with the challenges coming from digital media focusing on media business
and media management issues.

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
=========================================================================================
The wide field of HCI is to discuss issues around human computer interaction modalities,
consumer experience, design of computer systems, human aspects, universal media access,
ergonomics, communication, novel interaction modalities, privacy, trusted systems,
interaction theories, and sociological and psychological factors. This theme of devotes
to several of these aspects, and is targeted to the scientific community dealing with
several applied and theoretical aspects of HCI and user experience.

Open Source
=========================================================================================
The last decade has seen a significant increase in open source initiatives such as open
source software, open standards, open content, open media, or even open source hardware.
On the one hand, the open movement has created new kinds of opportunities such as new
business models and development approaches. On the other hand, it has introduced new
kinds of technical and non-technical challenges.

Digital Games
=========================================================================================
The culture and business of digital games is becoming increasingly varied. The current
trends range from novel interface innovations and digital distribution channels to
social game dynamics and player-generated content. The games track is open for theoretical
works, empirical case studies and constructive projects.

ICT & E-Government
=========================================================================================
In recent years, ICT has played a pivotal role in the development of digital economy.
This technology facilitates the rapid accumulation and dissemination of information,
group interaction, communication, and collaboration. ICT has become one of the core
elements of managerial reform around the world. Since the launch of web 2.0 and
emergence of ICT infrastructure, processes and policies many governments and public
officials use new online tools to communicate among themselves, and with organizations
and citizens.

Demonstrations
=========================================================================================
The aim is to gather demonstrations from researchers and professionals from the
communities related to the topics of MindTrek. The objective for the demonstrations
is to provide a forum for exchanging experiences, practical projects, or media
demonstrators. The target audience includes members of the academic community,
industry, or laboratories who can demonstrate the results of their research projects
with a practical implementation.

Special academic sessions (e.g. tutorials, demonstrations, workshops, and
multidisciplinary sessions) will be held parallel to the MindTrek business conference.
Academic speakers and authors are warmly welcome to register for the business conference
tracks as part of the academic conference with our special registration rate. The
Academic MindTrek registration includes full service such as coffees, lunches, and
social gatherings.

DISC 2013 ** Deadline postponement ** and last CFP

[ Apologies if you receive this message more than once. ]

Hi,
The DISC 2013 organization committee decided together with the
steering committee to provide the DISC 2013 proceedings on a USB
(Disk on Key) and not on paper**.
As a result Springer gave us extra time on the schedule (no printing
and shipping on the schedule critical path). And we pass this extra
time to those of you that plan to submit a paper to DISC.
Thus the deadline is postponed by one week, giving you
more time to polish the submission and make it more readable and
of higher quality.

The new deadlines are thus:

Registration & abstract submission May 12, 2013
Submission May 19, 2013
Acceptance notification July 14, 2013
Camera ready July 30, 2013

** Those that still want a paper proceedings will be able to purchase
it directly from Springer. An online version will be available to
registered participants a few days before the conference for those
interested to
bring hard copies of specific papers.

Please join our Facebook Page for DISC 2013: https://www.facebook.com/disc2013

[DMANET] DISC 2013 ** Deadline postponement ** and last CFP

[ Apologies if you receive this message more than once. ]

Hi,
The DISC 2013 organization committee decided together with the
steering committee
to provide the DISC 2013 proceedings on a USB (Disk on Key) and not
on paper**.
As a result Springer gave us extra time on the schedule (no printing
and shipping
on the schedule critical path). And we pass this extra time to
those of you that plan
to submit a paper to DISC. Thus the deadline is postponed by one
week, giving you
more time to polish the submission and make it more readable and of
higher quality.

The new deadlines are thus:

Registration & abstract submission May 12, 2013
Submission May 19, 2013
Acceptance notification July 14, 2013
Camera ready July 30, 2013

** Those that still want a paper proceedings will be able to purchase
it directly from Springer.
An online version will be available to registered participants a few
days before the conference
for those interested to bring hard copies of specific papers.

Please join our Facebook Page for DISC 2013: https://www.facebook.com/disc2013

Held in conjunction with the 16th Multi-Conference on Information
Society, October 7-11, 2013, Ljubljana, Slovenia. (http://is.ijs.si/)

Scope and Topics
----------------
During the past years, other fields have used several subjects,
methods and approaches of Theoretical Computer Science, and several
results have been integrated into practical applications. Solutions

we expect ideas and solutions from the field of Theoretical Computer
Science which have been directly applied in real world
applications. On the other side we want to collect theoretical results
based on some fruitful idea that may be useful to adopt for practical
problems.

EIGHTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES
IN BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2013)

Novotel Central Sydney
Sydney, Australia
21-24 October 2013

http://www.senseapp.org

CALL FOR PAPERS

Sensor nodes are autonomous devices that combine sensing, computing and wireless communication capabilities. These nodes are deeply embedded into the physical surroundings, and gather and process information such as temperature, humidity, light characteristics, seismic activities or images and sound samples from the physical world. Networked systems of such sensors are expected to be used in a variety of applications including habitat monitoring, precision agriculture, disaster recovery operations, healthcare and supply chain management. Real-world sensor network deployments are still scarce, yet prototypic implementations are getting more common, particularly with the advent of novel sensing platforms such as smartphones, which allow for extending dedicated sensor networks. Experiences gained in such deployments are crucial for the sensor network research community. These results are needed to refine assumptions made when designing hardware, software, protocols and mechanisms for sensor networks.

This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from both academia and industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. It acts as a forum for the sensor network research community to discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions describing innovative work in the realm of wireless sensor networks. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications
- Innovative sensor network applications
- Mobile and participatory sensing applications and deployments
- Middleware support for sensor networks
- Programming and debugging sensor networks
- Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
- Experiences with new sensor hardware
- Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
- Experiences with communication protocols
- Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
- Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network deployments

DEBS 2013: 7th ACM International Conference on Distributed Event-Based
Systems

http://www.orgs.ttu.edu/debs2013/

Arlington, Texas, USA, June 29 - July 3, 2013

The scope of the ACM International Conference on Distributed Event-Based
Systems covers all topics relevant to event-based computing ranging from
those discussed in related disciplines (e.g. software systems,
distributed systems, data management, dependability, knowledge
management, networking, programming languages, security and software
engineering), to domain-specific topics of event-based computing (e.g.
real-time analytics, mobile computing, social networking, pervasive and
ubiquitous computing, sensors networks, user interfaces, big data
processing, spatio-temporal processing, Cloud computing, the internet of
things, peer-to-peer computing and embedded systems), to
enterprise-related topics (e.g. complex event detection, enterprise
application integration, real-time enterprises and web services). Topics
addressed by the conference papers may include (but are not limited to)
models, architectures and paradigms of event-based systems, middleware
systems and frameworks, and applications, experiences and requirements.

Demos

Demonstrations present first-hand experience with research prototypes or
operational systems. Demonstrations also provide opportunities to
exchange ideas gained from implementing event-based systems and to
obtain feedback from expert users. Demonstration submissions are
welcomed in any of the areas identified in the scope of the conference.
The authors are expected to prepare a poster and perform a live software
demonstration on their own laptop during an exhibit-style conference
reception. Any special requirements should be identified in the appendix
of the paper. Submissions must be in the ACM format for conference
proceedings and are limited to 2 pages. Accepted contributions will be
published by ACM and disseminated through the ACM Digital Library.

Posters

Poster presentations offer researchers an opportunity to present
significant work in progress or research that is best communicated in an
interactive or graphical format. Further, poster presentations provide
researchers with an opportunity to obtain direct feedback about their
work from a wide audience during the poster session. The authors are
expected to prepare and present a poster during an exhibit-style
conference reception. Poster submissions are welcomed in areas related
to any aspect of event processing as identified in the call for
contributions. Posters should focus on problems and methodology of the
presented research. Submissions must be in the ACM format for the
conference proceedings and are limited to 2 pages. Accepted
contributions will be published by ACM and disseminated through the ACM
Digital Library.

Poster submissions and system demonstrations can overlap the work
described in other kinds of submissions.

Submission Information

All paper submissions must be original and unpublished. Submissions must
be in the ACM format for conference proceedings.

Only PDF documents will be accepted.

Authors are encouraged to make use of the ACM SIGS Proceedings templates
