[DMANET] PhD positions in Theoretical Computer Science /

The Algorithms & Theory group at the Computer Science Institute
of the University of Tartu, Estonia, invites applicants for

* 2 fully funded PhD positions

for the academic year starting in September.

Both positions are in _Theoretical_ Computer Science: the sole research
work is PROVING THEOREMS.
One of the PhD positions is in the theory of machine learning; for the
other PhD project, the topic will be decided with the candidate
(sublinear algorithms, communication complexity, distributed computing, ...).


Deadline for application is May 31 !


Qualifications/Requirements
===========================

For PhD positions:

* Excellent command of the English language
* Strong background in mathematics or theoretical CS
* Master's degree in mathematics (or computer science w/ strong theory)


Remuneration
============

* 1200 Euro (after tax)
* For comparison: Average after tax income in Estonia: 930 Euro.
* Health insurance is free in Estonia.


Duties
======

* Obviously: conducting research, becoming an expert in your field
writing papers, writing a thesis;
* Participation in the other research-related activities of the
group, when time permits;
* Coursework ~12 ECTS per semester (mostly specialized theory
courses, e.g., Communication Complexity, Machine Learning Theory,
Cryptography, Quantum Computing, Coding Theory, ...).
