This school is the sixth "Encuentro Colombiano de Combinatoria (ECCO)" (Colombian Meeting on Combinatorics). Previous meetings took place in Bogotá (2003, 2008, 2012, and 2014), and in Medellín (2016). The main objective of the school is to bring young mathematicians from the region into close contact with international researchers and leading experts in various fields of combinatorics and its applications. We aim at promoting mathematical research among young students in a motivating environment, and to consolidate a regional research network in combinatorics.

The two weeks of the school consist of four minicourses, exercise sessions, a SageMath tutorial, and research talks given by the participants. The program is structured around the students, and therefore we encourage all the participants, independent of their career stage, to take part of the exercise sessions.

We are happy to include in the program talks proposed by the participants. ln the event of a full schedule, priority will be given to young mathematicians from the region.

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the
University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty
position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Exceptional

Title of the position: Assistant or Associate Professor

Duties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in

The sheer volume of new data, which is being generated at an increasingly fast pace, has already produced an anticipated data deluge that is difficult to challenge. We are in the presence of an overwhelming vast quantity of data, owing to how easy is to produce or derive digital data. Even the storage of this massive amount of data is becoming a highly demanding task, outpacing the current development of hardware and software infrastructure. Nonetheless, this effort must be undertaken now for the preservation, organization and long-term maintenance of these precious data. However, the collected data is useless without our ability fully understand and make use of it. Therefore, we need new algorithms to address this challenge.

Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications.

This Special Issue takes into account the increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel and distributed data mining algorithms. Parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators available on parallel computers. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications.

Moreover, increasingly the data is spread among different geographically distributed sites. Centralized processing of this data is very inefficient and expensive. In some cases, it may even be impractical and subject to security risks. Therefore, processing the data minimizing the amount of data being exchanged whilst guaranteeing at the same time correctness and efficiency is an extremely important challenge. Distributed data mining performs data analysis and mining in a fundamentally distributed manner paying careful attention to resource constraints, in particular bandwidth limitation, privacy concerns and computing power.

The focus of this Special Issue is on all forms of advances in high-performance and distributed data mining algorithms and applications. The topics relevant to the Special Issue include (but are not limited to) the following.

LATIN is devoted to different areas in theoretical computer science
including, but not limited to: algorithms (approximation, online,
randomized, algorithmic game theory, etc.), analytic combinatorics
and analysis of algorithms, automata theory and formal languages,
coding theory and data compression, combinatorial algorithms,
combinatorial optimization, combinatorics and graph theory,
complexity theory, computational algebra, computational biology,
computational geometry, computational number theory, cryptology,
databases and information retrieval, data structures, formal
methods and security, Internet and the web, parallel and distributed
computing, pattern matching, programming language theory, and
random structures.

SUBMISSION
----------------------------------------------

Full papers are to be submitted electronically using the EasyChair
server at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=latin2018.

Submissions are limited to twelve (12) single-column letter-size
pages in Springer LNCS format (see LNCS author guidelines at
http://www.springer.com/la/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines).
This limit includes figures and references. An optional appendix
(to be read at the program committee's discretion) may be included
if desired. Simultaneous submission of papers to any other
conference with published proceedings, as well as the submission
of previously published papers, is not allowed. Papers must be
written in English. For each accepted paper at least one author
must register and attend the symposium to present it. Moreover, an
author cannot register for multiple papers. That is, each accepted
paper must have its own registrant.

The Eighth International Conference on Information Science and Technology
(ICIST 2018) will be held in Cordoba, Granada, and Seville, three pearls of
Andalusia in Spain during June 30-July 6, 2018, following the successes of
previous events. ICIST 2018 aims to provide a high-level international
forum for scientists, engineers, and educators to present the state of the
art of research and applications in related fields. The conference will
feature plenary speeches given by world renowned scholars, regular sessions
with broad coverage, and special sessions focusing on popular topics.

Authors are invited to submit full-length papers by the submission deadline
through the online submission system. The submission of a paper implies
that the paper is original and has not been submitted under review or is
not copyright-protected elsewhere and will be presented by an author if
accepted. All submitted papers will be refereed by experts in the field
based on the criteria of originality, significance, quality, and clarity.

The 18th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial
Optimisation is a multidisciplinary conference that brings together researchers
working on evolutionary computation methods and other metaheuristics for
solving difficult combinatorial optimisation problems appearing in various
industrial, economic, and scientific domains. Prominent examples of
metaheuristics include: evolutionary algorithms, estimation of distribution
algorithms, swarm intelligence methods such as ant colony and particle swarm
optimisation, local search methods such as simulated annealing, tabu search,
variable neighbourhood search, iterated local search, scatter search and path
relinking, and their hybridisation, such as memetic algorithms. Automatic
algorithm configuration and design, meta-optimisation, model-based methods, and
hyperheuristics are also topics of interest. Successfully solved problems
include, but are not limited to, multi-objective, uncertain, dynamic and
stochastic problems in the context of scheduling, timetabling, network design,
transportation and distribution, vehicle routing, graph problems,
satisfiability, energy optimisation, cutting, packing, and planning problems.


The EvoCOP 2018 conference will be held in the city of Parma, Italy, together
with EuroGP (the 21st European Conference on Genetic Programming), EvoMUSART
(7th European conference on evolutionary and biologically inspired music,
sound, art and design) and EvoApplications (specialist events on a range of
evolutionary computation topics and applications), in a joint event
collectively known as EvoStar (Evo*).

**** Publication Details ****

EvoCOP 2018 will accept two types of submissions:

* Regular papers will be presented orally at the conference and printed in the
proceedings published by Springer in the LNCS series (see LNCS volumes 2037,
2279, 2611, 3004, 3448, 3906, 4446, 4972, 5482, 6022, 6622, 7245, 7832, 8600,
9026, 9595 and 10197 for the previous proceedings).

* Late-breaking abstracts (LBAs) summarising ongoing research, recent studies
and applications of evolutionary computation and other meta-heuristics to
real-world or academic combinatorial optimisation problems. LBAs will be
presented as posters during the conference.


**** Submission Details ****

Regular paper submissions must be original and not published elsewhere. The
submissions will be peer reviewed by members of the program committee. The
authors of accepted papers will have to improve their paper on the basis of
the reviewers' comments and will be asked to send a camera ready version of
their manuscripts. At least one author of each accepted work has to register
for the conference, attend the conference and present the work.

The reviewing process will be double-blind, please omit information about the

Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of Algorithms and Complexity Theory to be held in the Department of Computer Science with effect from 1 October 2018. The successful candidate will also be appointed as Fellow and Tutor in Computer Science at Hertford College; Tutors being responsible for the organisation and teaching of their subject within the College.

The salary for this position is offered on a scale from £46,336 per annum, plus substantial additional benefits, including single accommodation at college, if available, or a living-out allowance of £9,437 pa. An allowance of £2,700 pa would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.

The Department of Computer Science is a vibrant and growing academic department, which has a research profile across the entire spectrum of contemporary computing. The Associate Professor will be expected to engage in independent and original research in the field of Algorithms and Complexity Theory, to secure funding and engage in the management of research projects and disseminate research of the highest international standard through publications, conferences and seminars. They will also will contribute to teaching on the Department's highly successful undergraduate and graduate programmes. Oxford has a strong tradition in Algorithms and Complexity Theory, with multiple active faculty members in the Computer Science, Information Engineering, and Statistics departments.

The Associate Professor will be a member of both the University and the college community. They will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating research community with access to the excellent research facilities which Oxford offers. They will have a role to play in the running of the College as a member of the Governing Body and a trustee of the College as a charity.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in Computer Science, or a related subject, will have the ability to teach across a range of Computer Science subjects, and will also have a proven research record of high quality at international level in the area of Algorithms and Complexity Theory, and experience of research collaborations at both national and international level.

you may be interested in the 'Brilliant Challenges' contest being
organised by Optil.io. There still some time to submit the problem and

Evaluation as a Service (EaaS), in brief, is defined as a paradigm of
keeping the evaluation data in the cloud and allowing to access them via
dedicated interfaces [1]. Optil.io [2] is an online judge platform
following EaaS concept that allows the users from all over the world to
continuously and reliably evaluate the algorithmic solutions of complex
optimization problems and to organize specific science- and
industry-inspired challenges. By hiding the test cases from the
participants and providing the homogeneous, cloud-based runtime
environment, we provide an objective method for assessment of various
algorithms, submitted by the users, solving optimization problems. *The
aim of the Brilliant Challenges contest is to collect interesting,
applicable problems that could be published on the Optil.io platform and
addressed by its users.*

Assistant Professor of Mathematics, LSE (London School of Economics)

The Department of Mathematics at LSE seeks to appoint an Assistant
Professor. For this post, we are particularly interested in candidates
with expertise in a subject area related to the Mathematics of
Operations Research. The successful candidate will have an established
track record or trajectory of research at a level of international
excellence, will be able to teach mathematics at undergraduate and
postgraduate level, and will have a commitment to excellence in
teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to the general work
of the department, including the teaching of a range of courses. She or
he will maintain an active programme of research in mathematics and will
have a clear, well developed and viable strategy for future outstanding
research. She or he will have a PhD in a mathematical subject (or be
close to completing one) by the intended start date of 1 September 2018.

[DMANET] Tenure track position for a female researcher at TU Wien, Vienna, Austria

As part of a special measure towards increasing female employment in scientific positions and promoting young researchers, the Faculty of Informatics at the TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position (tenure track) for women, expected to begin on May 2, 2018.

Candidates can apply in any of the Faculty's main research areas: Computer Engineering, Distributed and Parallel Systems, Logic & Computation (which includes Algorithms and Complexity), Media Informatics & Visual Computing, as well as Business Informatics (http://www.informatik.tuwien.ac.at/research).

The work contract is initially limited to six years. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.

Informatics in Natural Sciences and Engineering (AMINSE 2017) will be
held in Tbilisi, Georgia, December 6-9, 2017. The conference will be
organized by VIAM and is dedicated to the 80th birthday of David Gordeziani
the director of Ilia Vekua Institute of Applied Mathematics (VIAM) of
Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) in 1985-2006.

The aim of AMINSE 2017 is to bring together scientists to discuss their
research results in all aspects of Mathematics, Informatics, and their

The International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics (ISAIM) is a biennial meeting that fosters interactions between mathematics, theoretical computer science, and artificial intelligence. This is the fifteenth Symposium in the series, which is sponsored by Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. We seek submissions of recent results with a particular emphasis on the foundations of AI and mathematical methods used in AI. Papers describing applications are also encouraged, but the focus should be on principled lessons learned from the development of the application. Traditionally, the Symposium attracts participants from a variety of disciplines, thereby providing a unique forum for scientific exchange. The three-day Symposium includes invited speakers, presentations of technical papers, and special topic sessions.

The submission deadline is Tuesday, October 3, 2017 (11:59PM PDT). Papers will be reviewed by members of the Program Committee. Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Final versions of accepted papers, for inclusion in the conference electronic proceedings, are due by Monday, November 27, 2017.

Work that has already been published as of the ISAIM submission deadline should not be submitted to ISAIM unless it introduces a significant addition to the previously published work. However, the ISAIM web site proceedings are not archival, so papers submitted to ISAIM can be under review at the time of submission and can be submitted elsewhere after ISAIM.

Authors of a selected set of papers from the Symposium will be invited to submit full versions of their papers for inclusion in a special volume of the Annals of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, published by Springer. Those invited submissions will be subject to refereeing at the usual standards of the journal, and authors will receive more details with the acceptance notice. Papers must of course be new and unpublished to be considered for the special volume.

The November 1st deadline for the next *Data Compression Conference* (DCC
'18) is approaching and we would like to remind you that there will be a
special session on *c**omputation over compressed data*. We invite you to

The sheer volume of new data, which is being generated at an =
increasingly fast pace, has already produced an anticipated data deluge =
that is difficult to challenge. We are in the presence of an =
overwhelming vast quantity of data, owing to how easy is to produce or =
derive digital data. Even the storage of this massive amount of data is =
becoming a highly demanding task, outpacing the current development of =
hardware and software infrastructure. Nonetheless, this effort must be =
undertaken now for the preservation, organization and long-term =
maintenance of these precious data. However, the collected data is =
useless without our ability fully understand and make use of it. =
Therefore, we need new algorithms to address this challenge.

Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in =
order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular =
in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of =
data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though =
sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not =
suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining =
applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential =
systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current =
applications.

This Special Issue takes into account the increasing interest in the =
design and implementation of parallel and distributed data mining =
algorithms. Parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time =
and memory requirement issues, by exploiting the vast aggregate main =
memory and processing power of processors and accelerators available on =
parallel computers. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order =
to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive =
datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good =
data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the =
workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related =
to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O =
costs should be minimized as well. Creating breakthrough parallel =
algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires =
addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel =
solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications.

Moreover, increasingly the data is spread among different geographically =
distributed sites. Centralized processing of this data is very =
inefficient and expensive. In some cases, it may even be impractical and =
subject to security risks. Therefore, processing the data minimizing the =
amount of data being exchanged whilst guaranteeing at the same time =
correctness and efficiency is an extremely important challenge. =
Distributed data mining performs data analysis and mining in a =
fundamentally distributed manner paying careful attention to resource =
constraints, in particular bandwidth limitation, privacy concerns and =
computing power.

The focus of this Special Issue is on all forms of advances in =
high-performance and distributed data mining algorithms and =
applications. The topics relevant to the Special Issue include (but are =
not limited to) the following.

Die Fachgruppe Diskrete Mathematik der Deutschen
Mathematiker-Vereinigung schreibt zum elften Mal einen Preis für
hervorragende Dissertationen in der Diskreten Mathematik aus. Der Preis
wird vom Springer-Verlag gestiftet und ist in diesem Jahr mit EUR 1000,-
dotiert. Die Bekanntgabe der Preisträgerin/des Preisträgers und die
Übergabe des Preises wird im Rahmen des Symposiums Diskrete Mathematik
2018, 15.-16. Juni 2018 in Graz
(https://www.math.tugraz.at/comb/sdm2018/) erfolgen.

Die Preisträgerin/der Preisträger werden zu diesem Symposium eingeladen,
um ihre/seine Dissertation in einem Vortrag vorzustellen. Die
Entscheidung über die Preisvergabe liegt in den Händen einer
renommierten ausländischen Mathematikerin oder eines renommierten
ausländischen Mathematikers. Vorschlagsberechtigt sind die Betreuer der
Dissertationen. Eigenbewerbung ist ausgeschlossen. Vorgeschlagen werden
können Personen, die in Deutschland, Österreich oder der
deutschsprachigen Schweiz promoviert haben oder eine solche Nationalität
besitzen und deren Dissertation über ein Thema der Diskreten Mathematik
zwischen dem 1. Januar 2016 und dem 31. Dezember 2017 abgeschlossen
wurde. Dem Vorschlag sind ein Exemplar der Dissertation sowie ein
Gutachten (in englischer Sprache) der Betreuerin/des Betreuers der
Arbeit beizufügen. Desweiteren fügen Sie bitte ein in Englisch
verfasstes Abstract der Dissertation bei, falls diese in deutscher
Sprache verfasst wurde.

Die Vorschläge und Gutachten sind bis zum 31. Januar 2018 bei einem der
Vorstandsmitglieder der Fachgruppe Diskrete Mathematik, bevorzugt in
pdf-Dateien, einzureichen:
